20"x16" Framed Print - Limited edition of 50
Forêt Communale, Jura, France. January 2008.
This path lies in one of the many communal forests in France used for local recreation, hunting and firewood. Altogether, there are 11 000 local forest communes in France, accounting for 30 percent of all the communes in the country. They own about 3 million ha of forests currently 20 percent of the country's total forest area. The legislation governing French communal forests, is based on usage rights dating back to Roman times and to the Middle Ages.
I make my prints using a cotton-based watercolour paper that emphasises the subtle colours and textures of the grasses, bark and other natural elements in the scene. The frame is a glassless wooden "floatframe". There is a small space around the mounted print which makes the print appear to "float" within the frame.
